*Course time based on 1 Instructor: 1 student: 1 manikin
​(We offer 3, 5 hour sessions per day. Our classes usually only have 1 student per session. We do not take lunch breaks during the course.)

Providers who successfully complete the PALS course receive a course completion card valid for two years.

Kennesaw, Georgia PALS Provider Course Description

Attentive Safety CPR and Safety Training's PALS Provider course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. The PALS Provider course uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.

Concepts and skills covered in the PALS Provider course include:

  • review of BLS and AED for infants and children
  • systematic approach to the seriously ill or injured child
  • recognition and management of cardiac arrest
  • effective resuscitation team dynamics
  • recognition and management of respiratory distress and failure
  • bag-mask ventilation, suctioning, and other airway management techniques
  • recognition and management of shock
  • circulatory emergencies
  • recognition and management of arrhythmias
  • post-cardiac arrest care.

PALS Testing and Exam Requirements

  • 50 question exam (Must score at least 84%)
  • Child CPR and AED Skills Test
  • Infant CPR Skills Test
  • PALS Case Scenario Test 1- Cardiac
  • PALS Case Scenario Test 2- Respiratory or Shock​

Mandatory PALS Provider Precourse Requirements

You should prepare for the course by doing the following:
  1. Complete the Precourse Preparation Checklist that came with your PALS Provider Manual. Bring the checklist with you to the course.
  2. Review the course agenda.
  3. Review and understand the information in your PALS Provider Manual.  
  4. Ensure that your BLS skills and knowledge are current for the resuscitation scenarios. You will be tested on adult high-quality BLS skills at the beginning of the PALS Course. You must know this in advance because you will not be taught how to do CPR or use an AED.
  5. Review, understand, and complete the Precourse Self-Assessment (mandatory) on the Student Website (www.heart.org/eccstudent). You will find the code to access the student website at the beginning of the PALS Provider Manual. You will not be taught how to read or interpret ECGs in the course, nor will you be taught details about pharmacology.
  6. Print your scores (certificate) for the Precourse Self-Assessment and bring them with you to class. A passing score is 70% or above, and you can take the Precourse Self-Assessment as many times as needed to achieve a passing score.

​Who Needs PALS Provider Certification?

Attentive Safety CPR and Safety Training's PALS Provider course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients.

These requirements are driven by state licensing board regulations and detail which particular healthcare agencies or individual healthcare license holders that are required to maintain PALS Provider certification. This class can also be taken by medical professionals or students in a medical program who are interested in expanding their knowledge.

Continuing Education Credits for EMS Professionals

Attentive Safety CPR and Safety Training is now able to offer Continuing Education credits through CAPCE (Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education) for EMS professionals. This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE), for 2.25 Basic CEHs, activity number 18-AMHA-F2-0001.
