Exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials can occur in healthcare, childcare, public safety, custodial work, tattoo studios, and many other settings. Without proper education, even one incident can lead to serious illness, legal issues, and OSHA violations. Attentive Safety’s American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Course gives you the essential knowledge to protect yourself and others, prevent exposure, and respond with confidence if an incident happens.
This course explains what bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials are, how they spread, and why these risks matter in real workplace situations. Participants learn how infections move from person to person, which pathogens are most concerning, and the role both the employer and employee play in staying protected. The training covers OSHA requirements, including understanding the purpose of an Exposure Control Plan and why it’s important to review the plan at your own workplace after the course. You will also learn the difference between engineering controls and work practice controls, with clear examples of how each one helps reduce exposure. Standard precautions are explained in everyday terms so you understand how to apply them no matter what industry you work in. The course also demonstrates how to use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly, how to wash your hands to reduce contamination, and what to do if an exposure occurs—including immediate steps and proper reporting procedures. For instructor-led sessions, participants also practice the safe removal of disposable gloves. Tattoo artists, body piercers, microblading technicians, and PMU artists receive additional guidance on safely cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces that may be contaminated with blood or other potentially infectious materials. After completing the course, participants should review their own workplace’s specific safety policies and Exposure Control Plan to ensure full compliance. |
